Ashes to Ashes

The Ashes starts from today with the first test at Lords. It is interesting to read here the history behind the title "Ashes" i.e. the defeat of England in 1882 and its panning by the British Media. In the recent times, we all know that the Ashes has been one-sided due to the Australian dominance. While everybody is saying that the current England team is the best ever, I am not sure if they have the killer instinct to back up their talent. The British do have a tendancy to hype things up, you can see it during World Cup Football when their team is playing, and also, when Tim Henman is playing Wimbledon. As the wikipedia article also suggests, I think that India-Pakistan, or even India-Australia matches are more keenly contested.

Comments:
Somehow I agree with you. England does have a tendency to hype things a bit more than others.

I especially agree about Tim Henman. The guy has never ever won any tournament, and has never fared well on any surface other than grass. Even in wimbledon, the guy has managed to make it to the semis, only once.

And frankly, Beckham is an over-rated player. He is good, but not brilliant as he is made out to be. Ryan Giggs is a much more accomplisged player than Beckham. If you follow English Premier League, you will come to know what I mean. Same holds true for Christiano Ronaldo.
