Karachi test

What a defeat ! Surely it will rankle every Indian cricket fan, more so because the series has been decided by this single test. But I think our fate was sealed when we failed to take a decent lead in 1st innings. The first two innings getting finished in 1.5 days meant that a result was inevitable. The team which was better in the second innings won, and that was clearly Pakistan. And it was more a batting failure rather than bowling which did us in.

A quote from WG Grace,

"When you win the toss - bat. If you are in doubt, think about it, then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat."

Comments:
nice quotes.

We lost the match when we could not capitalize on 39/6. We let Kamraan Akmal and Abul Razzak score so many runs. Thats where we lost the match. This has been our perennial problem, and unless we get a tear-away fast bowler or a Shane Warne, or Murali, there wont be any respite from it. Kumble by no means is un-playable on day 1 or day 2.

Rahul Dravid's captaincy in this test match was abyssmal to say the least. If you look at runs scored by a batsman as an indication of his batting prowess, then Pathan is our best batsman and most reliable one. He should have been promoted in the first innings, for it would not only have taken the shine off the new ball, but also demoralized the opposition a bit.

All said and done, a new ball or old ball doesnt make too much of difference to Indian batting. If they have to fall, they fall anyways. Even galli-chaap bowlers can get them out.

One more thing: If making runs is the yardstick for a batsman, and Sourav is made to sit out, then Sachin should also sit out. I liked Dino's comments that day -

"Sachin is not a great batsman. He is a good batsman, but not great."

We tend to idolize people a bit too much.
