Profit from it

I am an avid follower of politics in India. The moves and countermoves of politicians are really very fascinating. Now take the recent example of the "office of profit" controversy. Every political party has people in legislative offices also holding these offices of profit. But the Congress used it to settle scores with SP (read : expulsion of Jaya Bachhan) and the BJP to target the Congress (read : the Congress President).

And then Sonia Gandhi once again did a great "sacrifice" by resigning as MP and as the chairperson of NAC. If you look closely, you realize that she is again going to contest from Rai-Bareli. It is a no-brainer that she will win there. Then why the resignation from Lok Sabha ? Isn't it a waste of tax payers' money ? But then in politics, perception is often more important than reality. And the perception is that she has shown more propriety than the leaders in the BJP or the Left.

Thus for the time being, Congress has outmaneuvered both the BJP and the Left. Hopefully, it will bring some gains for the party in the ensuing Assembly elections.

And that is how Congress has lived long, while the other parties came and died.

Well, I think the people now can't be taken for a ride. They want results not publicity stunts.
