GER : ITA

I strongly hope that Die Nationalmannschaft will crush the Azzurri because the latter don't deserve to be there.

The Mail has an interesting article about the English football team, on how they make things difficult and, shoot themselves in the foot.

<--Excerpts-->
Sometime during the teeth-grinding ordeal of Tuesday night's second-half between England and Sweden, the shires faced up to a savage realisation. Watching England in a tournament is exhausting. A risk to personal health. It's an emotional Tour de France of exasperating blows and second-half farragos...

...On the full three-hour tour, gawping visitors will re-live the Hand of God goal in 1986, Gazza's tears at Italia 90, the Euro 96 semi-final epic against Germany and the excruciating England-Argentina clash at France 98. Not forgetting the defeats against France and Portugal at Euro 2004, where England were loyal to their habit of seizing the initiative and then handing it back...

...Trying to cover the big England games for tight evening deadlines has left many a football writer with a thousand-yard stare. The story-line changes so violently that it's like chasing an escaped lunatic through a forest. There's no telling which way he will go next. A red card here, a late equaliser there, a penalty shoot-out, just as the newspaper is begging to go to bed.

Comments:
You see Italy is there without too many stars, but it doesn't mean they don't deserve. With so much lime light on England, they were not able to convert chances against Portugal, what's the use? Is it that only teams which are supported in the media should reach next levels?

and by the way, diego maradona says Italy has upper hand. :D

It is not a question of which team is supported by the media.
It is a question how you have reached here. Did you see
how Italians played against Australians ? They just couldn't score, so what they did, somebody dived in penalty area, got a penalty and won. And they had the easiest QF game against Ukraine, when 2 QF matches go into penalty shootouts, and one needed the brilliance of Zidane to win 1-0. Germany and France had really difficult games against Argentina, and Brazil/Spain. Don't forget the what happened with Brazil the other day, they hadn't met a quality team yet in the world cup and, when they did, it was their nemesis.

I agree with smash here. Feigning injuries and fouls is a part of the game these days. And its an art in its own right. Italy did that very well and hence they deserve to be in.
But me too hopes that they lose to Germany :)

The point being I am a bg supporter of Azzurri and get upset by such statements :)

May the best team win!!

Being a regular viewer of EPL, I expected a more free flowing game from England and definitely expected them to reach the semis atleast. Not sure who is to blame, though most fingers seem to point at Erikson.
